Elvis made several national television appearances at the beginning of his career. Eight times between January 28, 1956 and January 6, 1957 he performed at the legendary CBS Studio 50 in Manhattan. CBS Studio 50 was renamed The Ed Sullivan Theater in 1967.
On January 28, 1956 Elvis made the first of six national television appearance on the Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey Brothers "Stage Show" which originated at CBS Studio 50. The then virtually unknown Elvis performed two songs: "Shake Rattle & Roll/Flip Flop & Fly" and "I Got A Woman". This performance was followed by five more appearances on February 4, 11, 18 and March 17 and 24.
Elvis' most famous national television appearances were his three performances on the Ed Sullivan Show. On September 9, 1956 a broadcast from CBS studios in Hollywood was viewed by over 60 million people. Elvis performed, "Don't Be Cruel", "Love Me Tender", "Ready Teddy" and 'Hound Dog'.
The Ed Sullivan Show returned to the New York at CBS Studio 50 for Elvis' next two appearances on October 28, 1956, and January 6, 1957.
