"Placed in the plaza de la Provincia in 1629, the Orpheus Fountain was taken apart in 1865. Over one century later, the Municipal Housing Authority, replaced the original with a replica that was strongly evocative of it. It is part of a ensemble composed of an octagonal base on which there are four jets jutting out of a column crowned by a statue of Orpheus.
Situated right in front of the Palace of Santa Cruz, the old site of the Royal jail and now part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the copy of the original fountain has become a remainder of what this plaza once looked like, in the Madrid of its day."
