The town was bisected by the Blackstone River, where grist mills in the 18th century were started and grew into the the textile factories. The 2 main sections of Millville, the Central St District and the Main Street District.

This historic district developed during the peak of the US Rubber Company factory in the 19th and early 20th century. The topography are steep slopes.
