There are four Western Development Museums in Saskatchewan, each with a different theme. The theme of the Yorkton WDM is "The Story of People". Back in 1907 some people drove Maxwells.

Another of the forefathers of Chrysler, this little Maxwell had an opposed two cylinder, water cooled engine of 3.2 litres for power. That power totalled all of 20 HP. Its bore and stroke were a perfectly square 5 × 5 inches. Strangely, it had neither a fan nor a water pump, with convection and road speed doing all their work.

The car's wheelbase and tread were 85 X 56 inches and its gross weight totalled 1601 pounds. It ran on skinny 30 X 3 1/2 inch tires mounted on wood spoke wheels with steel rims. Being small and light, it was often referred to as a "Doctor's Car", referring to the Doctor's Buggies of the age. Note that this is a right hand drive car, as was the norm then.

This car was bought new and used for many years in the Foremost area of Alberta. The last owner got it second hand in 1915 by trading a saddle horse and a pig for it.

Among the four WDM museums, they own a great many very rare tractors, cars, trucks and implements. This museum has six tractor and implement sheds outside as well as a collection of cars and trucks in the main building, an absolute dream for us gearheads. In the sheds are many very rare tractors, and some pretty rare implements. You can check the WDM out here: (visit link)
