In Canton, along Washington Street, is the Museum of American Bird Art at Mass Audubon, formerly the Canton Visual Arts Center, which is located on a wildlife sanctuary of Massachusetts Audubon.

The museum is located on the east side of Washington Street. From I-93, take Route 138 Souuth to Washingoton Street. Take a right onto Washington Street. Look for the sign - which still says 'Canton Visual Arts Center' - and entrance across the Canton High School. From the parking lot, walk a short distance to an intersection, then turn left to a small building at the end. The entrance is on the right, through a short extention of the building.

The museum is located in a small cottage building among other small buildings. Inside, the exhibit space is in three rooms: a small room to the right, the main exhibit building, and the balcony room. In the main exhibit area, under the balcony, is the reception desk, gift shopping area, and child activity area. The exhibit space rotates exhibits on a regular basis, often blending works from their own collection with other artwork. At the time of the visit the main room exhibit was exhibiting pages from a book designed to have been a supplement to John James Audubon's drawings - showing the nests and eggs of the birds, which James Audubon had usually not shown in his art. The other exhibit was a display of bird decoy carvings by A. Elmer Crowell. Not all of the art collection is visible at one time.

This is what is on the web site for this museum:

"From the founding of Mass Audubon in 1896, the organization has been inextricably linked with art. Named for John James Audubon, the legendary painter of American birds, Mass Audubon quite naturally was the recipient of generous gifts of artworks.

The core of the collection was, at first, engravings and lithographs by Audubon himself. Over time it has expanded, through bequests, gifts and purchases, to include works in a variety of mediums by some of the most renowned bird artists of Europe and America.

Bird conservation was the focus of Mass Audubon's founders, and although the organization’s mission has broadened over the years, the art collection remains consistently focused on American birds. It spans many styles and categories, including fine art, illustration, impressionism, folk art, even pop art."

Artists include John James Audubon and Andy Warhol.
