This curious block of stone, located near the front steps to the Lincoln County Courthouse seems out of place as the 100th meridian does not pass through North Platte. Rather the coordinates seem to point to a location nearly 40 miles east of its present position. I was unable to find any information on the significance of this stone during my research. The only clue is an inscription on one of the faces that reads: Originally erected in 1864, Hauled to North Platte by ox team.
