This bridge carries Huddersfield Road (the A641) across the River Calder and was originally built as a toll bridge in 1824.

It lasted as a toll bridge until the tolls were abolished in 1875.
In 1905 after the town had expanded the bridge was widened and the bridge has two designs of plaque from that time.
One of them shows the coat of arms of the town of Brighouse whilst the other shows the coat of arms of the County of the West Riding of Yorkshire.
There is also a more modern commemorative plaque erected in 1992 after restoration work was carried out.
