A former National school in Llandderfel, that is clearly an English speaking school in a VERY Welsh speaking language area.
The teaching of the Welsh language in this area was frowned appon in the 19th Century as it was thought teaching in English would give children a better start in life, and mean they would be more likely to get better jobs, making Welsh a lesser language, hence why the plaque is in English not Welsh.
