In Greek mythology, Ganymede (Greek: Ganymedes) is a divine hero from the Iliad, whose homeland was Troy / Ganymede (Jupiter III) is a satellite of Jupiter and the largest moon in the Solar System.

This neobarocco fountain, build in 1888 by the Bratislavan sculptor Viktor Tilgner, is located at Hviezdoslavovo Square (Hviezdoslavovo námestie) in front of the Slovak National Theatre (Slovenské národné divadlo).

At the top of fountain you'll see a figure of Ganymede, a Greek hero from the Iliad. Ganymede was abducted by Zeus from Mount Ida, near Troy in Phrygia. Ganymede had been tending sheep, a rustic or humble pursuit characteristic of a hero's boyhood before his privileged status is revealed. Zeus either sent an eagle or turned himself to an eagle to transport the youth to Mount Olympus.

Ganymede (Jupiter III) is a satellite of Jupiter and the largest moon in the Solar System. Ganymede's discovery is credited to Galileo Galilei, who was the first to observe it on January 7, 1610. The satellite's name was soon suggested by astronomer Simon Marius, for the mythological Ganymede, cupbearer of the Greek gods and Zeus's lover.
