Kota Bharu is the capital of the Malaysian state of Kelantan, in the north east of Peninsular Malaysia. A quiet town and province. Near the city centre is this eye-catching bus station. A two story, long rectangular building, a bright red. On the ground floor ticket counters, for both local buses and for long distance buses. From here buses travel to Thailand, to Kuala Lumpur, and to Johor (on the border with Singapore). The buses park around the station and up and down neighbouring streets. Food and drink from the small restaurants adjacent.

There are a bevy of cheap hotels in the vicinity. Very few 'outsiders' visit this town and state, so expect a few stares and requests to talk in English if you visit!
