A peaceful park setting surrounds either side of the cathedral. There are numerous monuments and memorials of various descriptions, open grassy areas to sit and a few benches to rest and contemplate the meaning of a few of the memorials and, like this memorial, the sacrifice made in the defense of freedom.
With both a navy and army memorial in the park, past and current members of the air force request the placement of this memorial here.
