Originally the Post Office and Offices of the Inland Revenue and Customs were on the main floor, the residence of the Postmaster on the second, and the residence of the caretaker on the third. An annex on the south side of the building housed an examining warehouse for Customs purposes and for the collection of Provincial and Federal taxes.

The structure served as Petrolia’s Post Office from 1894 to 1964. From 1964 to the present a number of commercial establishments have operated on the premises.

A benchmark is embedded in the SE foundation wall.
