Det gamle statsfængsel, oprindeligt kaldet Horsens Straffeanstalt, åbnede i 1853. Helt til 2006 fungerede det som fængsel. Kun mænd var indsat i fængslet, som blandt andet indeholder en kirkesal. Fængslet dækker et område på 20.000 kvadratmeter. I dag afholdes der blandt andet koncerter på området. Fængselsmuseet, som er en del af Horsens Museum, viser celler og diverse effekter fra fængslet. Både fra fanger og ansatte. Man kan også se forskellige remedier brugt til afstraffelse og læse om dagligdagen i fængslet og de mange flugtforsøg.
The previous federation prison, originally called The Penal Institution, opened in 1853. Up to 2006 it worked as a prison. It had only male inmates. The prison has it's own church room. The prison covers an area of 20.000 square meters. Today concerts and other events are taking place in the area. There is also a prison museum, which is a part of Horsens Museum. It shows cells and different effects from the inmates and the staff. You can also see different things used for punishment, and read about daily life in the prison and about the many attempted escapes.

April to October: thusday to sunday: 10 AM to 5 PM.
