Lake Maria State Park is a remnant of the Big Woods. It is in Silver Creek Township, between Monticello and the unincorporated settlement Silver Creek.

Lake Maria State Park covers almost 1600 acres of woods in Wright County. The terrain shaped by glaciers also includes several small lakes.
The park is available for hiking, fishing, and backpack camping year round. Camper cabins are also available all year. Lake Maria State Park offers three-season sites for group tent camping. "Horse people" will enjoy the six miles of riding trails.
The park office has a small gift shop. They sell firewood, and rent boats, canoes, kayaks, and snowshoes.
There is a wheelchair-accessible picnic area. The visitor center has modern toilets. Naturalist programs are offered throughout the year.
State park vehicle permits, good at any Minnesota state park, are $5 per day, or $25 per year.

Activities: Hiking, fishing, geocaching, birdwatching, cross-country skiing, tent camping, horseback riding, ice skating, picnics. Seasonal highlights are maple syruping in the spring and candlelight snowshoeing in winter.
Background: The park is situated on a glacial moraine, and is a remnant of the Big Woods which formerly covered much of southern Minnesota.
