St. Mary's Basilica once described as the “the prettiest church in Australasia” was built in 1905. The Classically styled church was designed by architect F.W. Petre of Dunedin who had also designed the cathedral in Christchurch.
The rose window has an angel motif with several angels around the outer ring and others on a small inner ring. The window has many different colors throughout its design.
