In walking on the grounds of Samford Hall, I came across this stone memorial along West Thatch Avenue, not far from the intersection with South College Street. Even though the school was named "Alabama Polytechnic Institute" in 1919, it was popularly known as Auburn. I was not able to find any other information about the memorial. It is located on university property and seems to be well maintained.
The metal plaque on the top of the stone reads:
"In memory of the Auburn men who gave their lives in the World War"
On the front side of the stone the following appears:
"Erected by D.A.R. Chapter 1919"
