Cromwell is a town in Middlesex County, Connecticut, United States located in the middle of the state. it was named after Oliver Cromwell, whose title was the Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England. According to the 2010 census, the population of Cromwell was 14,005.

An approximately 10' high by 10' wide wooden artistic welcome sign is located on a knoll and easily visible to motorists exiting from Route 9 via exit 19. The sign contains an oval flanked by a pair of U.S. flags. The image in the oval shows historic downtown buildings in the foreground and the Connecticut River and the Bald Hill Range rising beyond the river in the distance.
