Dancing Pedestrians was commissioned by the City of Kelowna and the Bank of Montreal. The piece consists of 2 abstract figures done in bronze, a child and an adult, playfully dancing in front of the bank on a busy downtown street.

We have known Jock for several years and thought you might like to get to know him, as well:

JOCK HILDEBRAND

Jock Hildebrand is known internationally primarily for his stone and bronze sculptures in public places including Vietnam, China, Costa Rica, the Czech Republic, and the Okanagan Valley (Canada) where he currently has his studio, gallery and foundry.

Jock has lived in the Okanagan Valley for a good portion of his life, with some time away in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Denman Island on the coast of British Columbia. He completed his education, launching a 30+ year career, through the Emily Carr School of Art and Design in Vancouver, which included a minor in non-western art history. Jock’s extensive knowledge of African art and Asian history informs and inspires many of his works.

Jock has been active in the community through the formation of the Okanagan Thompson International Sculpture Symposium of which he was the founder and lead organizer. It brought over 100 sculptors into the Okanagan Valley and left a legacy of monumental art in 8 communities totalling over 1.8 million dollars. He was also the founder of the Angel Awards (now known as the Okanagan Arts Awards) and started the first Arts Council in West Kelowna. In 2009 he was the recipient of the Central Okanagan Visual Arts Award.

Although Jock spent a few years of his career as a painter, having produced works of all sizes in oil, acrylic and water color, sculpture has always been his primary passion and he continues to create pieces of all sizes in various media.
