Built to provide navigable passage, flood control and electrical power, Watts Bar Dam on the Tennessee River is on the Meigs and Rhea County line.

Built by the Tennessee Valley Authority between 1939 and 1942, Watts Bar Dam provided much needed electricity to support the war effort including the ultra-secretive Oak Ridge site. Five turbines were ultimately installed to accompany a 360 by 60 foot lock for navigation.
Watts Bar Dam and the accompanying lake are maintained by the Army Corps of Engineer.
