Maha Sarakham is a small city, capital of the small province of the same name, in northern Thailand. Few visitors. The provincial bus station is located on the southern side of the city centre, but, at this time, is undergoing major refurbishment. Buses continue to arrive and depart from this locale. Big inter-provincial buses busily winding their way north to Laos, south to Bangkok, and to the other provinces in the vicinity. Small buses, leaving the capital to travel to the small towns and villages in the province. Around the bus station are small travel agencies where trips and buses can be booked.
Surprisingly busy, for such a small town. The usual mix of food vendors, a small market, and lots of young people hanging out, attempting to, but failing, to look cool (it was a weekend).
