Yoran Lake is the largest lake (about 25 acres) in the Diamond Peak Wilderness and is located at an elevation of about 5950 feet. The lake is drained by a seasonal stream (fed by snow melt) that flows about three miles into Trapper Creek at an elevation of 5150 feet. The waterfall is located at an elevation of about 5500 feet. The area was heavily glaciated and the area is thickly mantled by morainal deposits into which the stream channel has been cut. A the location of the waterfall the stream has cut down to the underlying bedrock near a lava flow margin. The stream has cut back into the flow margin to form a vertical drop into a large pool surrounded by vertical bedrock walls. The stream is typically dry by September but the pool at the base of the falls maintains water later in the year.
To reach the springs, park at the trailhead near Shelter Cove Resort and take the Yoran Lake Trail for about 3 miles and then go cross country.
