Trapper Creek originates from two large springs in the Diamond Peak Wilderness Area west of Odell Lake. The springs are about 100 feet apart. The coordinates are at the western spring, the eastern spring is at N 43° 33.561‘ W 122° 04.637’. Each spring has an individual discharge channel which flows northward for about 400 feet before they join (N 43° 33.600’ W 122° 04.606’). The first half mile of the creek’s channel is heavily moss covered due to the stable flow from the springs. Below there, the channel becomes more unstable due to heavy snowmelt inflow from two major seasonal channels. The Diamond View channel joins at N 43° 33.946’ W 122° 04.385’ and the Yoran Lake channel joins at N 43° 34.375’ W 122° 04.177’.
To reach the springs, park at the trailhead near Shelter Cove Resort and take the Trapper Creek Trail for about 2.5 miles and then go cross country. Because of the Diamond View channel the springs can only be reached in the late summer and fall after the snow melt flows have dropped.
