DISH, TX began life in 2000 as "Clark," but when DISH Network was looking for a community to change its name to "DISH" in exchange for free satellite service, this town stepped up and the name of Clark was dropped.

The sign itself is found Sign is on the southwest corner of Eakins Cemetery Road and FM 156. Wikipedia has a little bit about DISH, also mentioning issues associated with the oil industry over the last few years. (visit link)

The bottom line is that, in exchange for the change from "Clark" to "DISH," all residents of the town receive free satellite service for ten years, and one can contact DISH Town Hall for their equipment (visit link) . Notably, there is a small airstrip in town, still bearing the name of "Clark."
Type of community: Town
