The seaport of Port Elliot was proclaimed by Governor Young on 28 August 1851, he named the town in honour of his friend, Sir Charles Elliot, who was at that time the Governor of Bermuda.
The post office was built in 1910 and operated until 2017 It still has the English emblem on the wall with a weather vane on the roof peak, the building is now an art gallery
