"During the 16th & 17th centuries, two taverns (The Cock & The Haunch of Venison) stood on the site of The Old Bank of England. Both taverns were demolished in 1888 though, making way for the construction of the Law Courts' branch of the Bank of England. The Bank of England traded here for 87 years, until 1975 when the premises were sold to a building society. In 1994, Fuller's took over the lease and began major refurbishment - restoring the building to its former glory.
The Old Bank of England has a somewhat more gruesome connection with the past too. It allegedly lies between the site of the barber shop owned by Sweeney Todd, and the pie shop owned by his mistress, Mrs Lovett. It is said to be in the tunnels and vaults below the building that Sweeney Todd’s victims were butchered - before being cooked and sold in pies to Mrs Lovett’s unsuspecting customers. You’ll be relieved to hear that our pies are made rather differently - using only the finest ingredients and quality British meat!" text Source: (

"You couldn’t find a better mix pies and ale, its like Bert and Ernie, Strawberries and Cream, Camilla and Charles…well you know what I mean. Fuller’s Ale and Pie House can be found at 194 Fleet Street in London it was once the Old Bank of London but it has been tranformed into a pub. As well as great beer the building itself is quiet spectacular with grand Victorian halls and lovely chandeliers and pies. The Pub has a pie stand with some really delicious flavours some quiet unusual. There’s plenty of quiet hidy holes for a quiet place to chat and the beer is pretty damm tasty- and don’t forget those gourmet pies!" Text source: (
