Known locally as "The Giants Hous" or Trethevy Quoit (a flat disc of stone or metal)is one of Englands most impressive Dolmens (Cornish Tolmen 1859 =Hole of Stone) The capstone is 12'00" long and in it's half fallen state is 15'00" high. There is a natural hole piercing its highest point. The function of this port hole is still a mystery : experts speculate that it was used for astronomical observations.
This burial chamber dates from the Bronze Age period. As with many of these stone sentiels the whole structure may at one time have been covered with a mound of earth long since degraded by the changing seasons and or robbers! These structures where often seen as the works of giants hence Arthurs Quoit.
