Buran was a russian program responding to the United States Space Shuttle program. The program started 1974-76 and ended 1993. The space shuttle Buran 1.01 had one unmanned spaceflight in 1988. That one was destroyed in a hangar collapse. The one in the exhibition waymarked here is the Buran OK-GLI, a prototype used for test flights between 1985 and 1988. In 2008 it was moved to the museum in Speyer by ship on the Rhine.
The OK-GLI itself is open for walk-in (the interior is not wheelchair acc.). In the hall there is a permanent space flight exhibition with lots of other aeronautic pieces (e.g. nutrition).

Buran war ein russisches Raumfahrprogramm als Antwort auf das US Space Shuttle Programm. Das russische Programm begann 1974-76 und endete 1993. Das space shuttle Buran 1.01 war 1988 einmal auf einem unbemannten Flug im All, wurde aber Jahre später beim Einsturz eines Hangars zerstört. Die Maschine, die im Technikmuseum ausgestellt ist, ist die Buran OK-GLI, eine Testmaschine, die von 1985-1988 im Einsatz war. 2008 wurde sie per Schiff auf dem Rhein nach Speyer gebracht.
Die OK-GLI selbst kann von Innen besichtigt werden (nicht möglich für Rollstühle). In der Halle gibt es eine Dauerausstellung zur bemannten Raumfahrt. Unter anderen gibt es dort Astronautennahrung zu sehen.
