A little to the north of the city centre of the northern Thai provincial capital of Phitsanulok is an ancient temple, now in ruins, but in the process or restoration. I could find no definite information about this Wat, but, most likely, it is associated with King Naresuan the Great. This King was born in the year 1555 in the city of Phitsanulok. Naresuan played a significant role in the history of Thailand, as he expanded the kingdom (then called Siam) to its greatest territorial extent, by conquering sizable portions of modern day Myanmar and Cambodia. He also expanded the city of Phitsanulok, and added several new temples. As this temple is adjacent to the modern shrine to the memory of the King it is reasonable to assume that it is one of his constructs.
The temple follows the general design of northern Thai Buddhist wats. There is a stupa at the rear of the temple, a ordination hall, with no statue of the Buddha present, and what most likely were living quarters for the monks and an admin building. At the current time the stonework is rather fragile, I suggest no actual walking upon until fully restored. Waymark location is the information sign in front of the wat.
