There are those who would decry the negative aspects of advances in civilization, but I expect that this is one they would cherish. Not too many years ago it was, for most people, many miles to the nearest ambulance and its attendant paramedics. Now, any town of any size at all is home to at least one ambulance station, an ambulance, and its paramedics.

Such is the case with Salmo, a not terribly significant community in terms of either size or population. This station must serve the communities of Salmo, Park Siding and Ymir to the north, and they share service in the communities of Fruitvale and Montrose, to the west, with Trail's ambulance service. As well, they must respond to road emergencies in an area of about 70 miles east to west and about 45 miles north to south.

A little information: The British Columbia Ambulance Service is a network of ambulance stations throughout British Columbia. They routinely cover areas outside of the stations' area depending on system load and current emergencies. They respond to all types of medical emergencies and provide patient transfer services.

British Columbia Ambulance Service, or BCAS, is also known as Emergency Health Service or EHS.
