The aylesford cage was a cage in which prisoners were kept overnight before being sent to the magistrate for punishment. This was not actually a cage. At this location is was a cavity in the village wall which had an iron grill in front of it to hold prisoners. The cage has long since gone. But during some recent restoration work to the wall some remnants were found. At this location a plaque has been placed to mark the spot. The plaque reads:
"Aylesford Cage
During the nineteenth century fellons were impounded in a cage or lock up prior to being taken to magistrates at West Malling. This practice ceased with the introduction of police stations and the cage at Aylesford was demolished in 1870. In December 1975 remnants of the ironworks were discovered whilst strengthening the wall and this plaque marks the location of this find
