Back in 1940, a travel guide said about this place:
"Cherry Tree (1,286 alt, 90 pop.), a farming village of frame houses, was so named for the profusion of wild cherry trees in the vicinity. At one time it bore the name of Skiddo."
---- Pennsylvania: A Guide to the Keystone State, 1940

Now known as Cherrytree (one word) in Venango County as there is another Cherry Tree, PA over in Indiana County. At the intersection of PA-8 and PA-417 highways, with township offices to the north. Per locals, the Cherrytree school closed in past decade, thus leaving the few frame houses and a church.
