Blasterz LOVE the Hiep Thai! It's the only place you can get exotic live seafood (live large whelks, anyone? No? How about some nice fat bullfrogs or lively river eels, then?) and wonderful products from all over Asia at reasonable prices.
This is the only place Mama Blaster will buy frozen squid or octopi, because she knows it MOVES, and has not been gathering ice crystals for months before anyone touched it.
The Hiep Thai always has something fascinating to buy. The Vietnamese folks who shop here are helpful and kind to mystified Anglos, happily sharing recipes or recommendations for best flavor between brands.
But for little kids of any ethnicity, the best part of a trip to the Hiep Thai is climbing on the big lions outside. It's also fun to see the change in the Buddhist religious offerings that are placed between the lion's paws every day.
