This Memorial takes the shape of an upright granite rectangle with the inscription:
"TIL
MINNE OM
FLYvåpnets
falne
1940 - 1945"
which means:
"TO THE
MEMORY of
Air Force
Fallen
1940 - 1945"
There is also an inscription on the back, probably a poem... which this poster could not read well...
It reads something like this:
"OVER DE DODES
RIKE STÅR LUFTEN
UKRENKELIG REN
DET ER SONÅ SPLITTE
ET VENKSKIAP HVIS
VI VILLE NEVNE EN
NORDAHL GRIEG"
which obviously has errors since Google translates that passage as:
"OVER THE DEAD
RICH IS AIR
CLEAN NON-INFRINGEMENT
THE DIVIDE SONA
A VENKSKIAP IF
WE WOULD MENTION A
Nordahl Grieg"
Any help providing the correct inscription would be appreciated.
There are various reliefs of birds on the monument..but on one side there is a curious relief of two men (one standing, the other sitting) in what would appear to be a dinghy.
The names of the many fallen servicemembers are listed on several bronze plates surrounding the base of the monument.
