The Athabasca Advocate reported in their paper and online that this boat launch was to be upgraded to create an angle that would make it easier to launch and load boats. (See: (visit link) )

The full article that explains how an estimate of $75,000 ballooned to $1.5 million. Of course the town council and local boaters rejected the need for the upgrade at this cost.

The Athabasca River is frequented by fisherman, recreational users and river boaters. The river is 1,231 kilometres in length with its head waters at the Athabasca glacier in Jasper National Park.
