Eamont Bridge gives its name to the village and takes its name from the river Eamont which flows underneath. The first recorded bridge here is 1303.

The bridge is described as the old boundary of Inglewood forest in 1303. The bridge was was rebuilt in 1425 from orders of the Bishop of Durham with "papal money". The road level was raised to reduce flooding which still occurs to this day. (
