In Ancient Greek mythology, the Minotaur was a creature with the head of a bull on the body of a man who lived at the center of the Cretan Labyrinth designed by Daedalus and his son Icarus at the command of King Minos of Crete. The Minotaur was the offspring of Minos' wife, Pasiphaë, and a white bull given to Minos by Poseidon. The Minotaur required humans for food. Minos was advised to build the labyrinth by the oracle at Delphi to contain the human-eating Minotaur. The Athenian, Theseus volunteered kill the Minotaur. He travelled into the labyrinth and successfully slayed the monster.
