A sign on the enclosure says:
Protected by these walls are the graves of members of the James West family, Peters Colony pioneers who came to Texas before 1848. They owned 640 acres of land in this area. James West (1822-1861) was born in Ohio and married Cynthia Freeman in 1843 in Illinois. They had three children Elizabeth (1846-1877), William W. (1851-1879), and Mary (1857-?), all born in Texas. The two older children and their father are known to be buried here. Cynthia continued to operate the farm buying and selling land, for the next twenty years.

An acquaintance of mine did a website some years ago, related to this and a few other out-of-place graves in the area, including the Myers graves, just across the street from this one. (
