Excerpt from the Silver Thread Byway interpretive sign
Often referred to as the Colorado Alps for their resemblance to their Swiss counterparts, these are some of the most rugged and impressive peaks in the San Juan Mountains. Two of Colorado's fourteeners are visible from the overlook - Wetterhorn Peak (14,015') and Uncompahgre Peak (14,309'). Other notable summits include Red Mountain (12,826'), Broken Hill (13,256'), Matterhorn Peak (13,590') and Crystal Peak (12,933').
