A wall of water tore out this power station along with 144 lives on July 31, 1976. The height of the water reached 17 feet above the average 3 foot depth of the river. According to the USGS, the flow of water in the Big Thompson River was estimated at 30100 cubic feet per second, where the average annual flow is 125 cfs (average summer flow is 200 cfs).
