This monument on the bank of Afon Nodwydd commemorates the death of the Prince and Poet Hywel ab Owain Gwynedd.
The battle of Pentraeth took place in 1170 and Hywel lost his life fighting for the succession to his father's kingdom with his brother.
The text on the plaque reads:
CYNGOR BWRDEISTREF YNYS MÔN
HYWEL AB OWAIN GWYNEDD
TYWYSOG A BARDD
LLADDWYD MEWN BRWYDR
YM MHENTRAETH YM 1170
"CARAF EI MORFA A'I MYNYDDOEDD"
Translation:
