This small obelisk with a height of about one meter can be found at a hiking path in the forested hill north of Münchenstein. It commemorates the Swiss soldiers who were serving here during WWII; the closer area was part of a fortification line, the forest is full of bunkers.

Unfortunately the memorial is in a very poor condition. Most parts of the inscription are not legible anymore.

Two sides are blank. The south face has a colored coat of arms of Switzerland, the text "Aktivdienst 1940" (active service) and three lines of unidentified text, I could only read the word "einer" (a German article).

The west side has a fainted coat of arms of the canton Bern and the military unit that was based here. The numbers are not legible anymore, but they must have been from Bern (the memorial is located in Baselland).
