The visitor information centre, museum and heritage society building located in woutheast Whitecourt is where this petrified redwood tree stump can be found on outdoor display.

The text from the sign states:
"Donated by Standard General Inc. when excavating gravel from their Windfall gravel pit located in NW28-60-16 W65.

Estimated to be 65 million years old.

Donated and delivered by Standard General Inc. to the Whitecourt and District Heritage Society for display in the Whitecourt and District Heritage Park."

Given that this stump was excavated locally and is of redwood tree, it is indicative that the climate in north-central Alberta has changed in the last 65 million years.
