Marker Text: Queenston School's 75th Anniversary Garden and Outdoor Classroom
Queenston School first opened its doors in September 1931. Designed by architects George Norwood and Cyril Chivers and built by H.S. Walin, general contractor, Queenston was one of the last schools built in Winnipeg during the depression. The cost of construction was $123,882 and the project helped to provide much needed work and wages under the Winnipeg Unemployment Relief. The basement was dug by manual labour and shifts were assigned in rotation thereby ensuring steady work for many.
In commemoration of Queenston School's 75th anniversary. The Millennium Garden was expanded to include an outdoor classroom, with planter boxes and seating, and a native perennial garden for the education and enjoyment of the students and the community.
