A sickle mower has a reciprocating blade that can cut any crop near the ground. When traveling the blade is raised to an upright position. Older scythes obtained the power to move the cutting blade back and forth from the rotating axle of the machine. This scythe gets its power from a power-take-off (PTO) shaft on the tractor on which it is temporarily mounted.
