Shoemaker and Hardt is one of Daddy Blaster's favorite local coffee shops. We have pilgrimaged here many times over the years. As soon as you walk in, the wonderful fresh-ground coffee smell of the place and all the cool stuff to look through (glass eyeballs, anyone?) takes you away from whatever has stressed you out that day and transports you to a world of sensory delight.
Fair warning: As great as Shoemaker & Hardt's coffee is, their hot chocolate (made from real melted chocolate and half-and-half) is E-V-I-L-L-I-C-I-O-U-S. At Christmastime, they serve it with an old-fashioned peppermint sugar stick to stir it with. The peppermint candy melts as you stir, imparting a wonderful minty flavor to the chocolate. It's a favorite Blaster holiday indulgence.
