This location in the Federal Building served as the main U.S. Post Office for the city of Medford for 46 years. It opened in March 1966 (source, Medford Mail Tribune 3/8/1966, described here).

The Postal Service no longer needed the amount of space this building provided due to relocating and combining sorting and distribution operations to a building on Sage Road. The new main postal facility for Medford moved to a leased building at 325 South Riverside in Spring 2012 (source: Medford Mail Tribune 2/24/2012). Jackson County completed purchase of the Federal Building in August 2011.

As of July 1, 2011, Medford had a total population of 75,180 and a metropolitan area population of 207,010, making the Medford MSA the 4th largest metro area in Oregon.
