This is one of several quonset huts still in existence at this old WWII air base for the RCAF.
The hut has been kept in use since the base was shuttered in 1970. It currently serves as a glider storage facility for the Royal Canadian Air Cadet Summer Glider Training Schools.
Despite its rough exterior, it is still dry and serviceable inside. In fact of the 200 plus bases built in Canada during WWII specifically for the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan (BACTP), Picton is the only one still preserved. A local holding company, Loch Sloy Holdings, bought the site and is slowly restoring all still useable buildings and renting them to various users. This includes this, and the other remaining quonsets (time and treachery have taken their toll on some of the buildings).
Additions: Air vents on roof.
Hut Type: Stran-Steel Quonset Hut
Year of fabrication (if known): 1943
Is the Quonset Hut currently in use?: Yes
Physical Address: Route 22 Picton, ON CA
