This weathervane spins atop the gazebo in Medford's Alba Park. It features a gold miner's pan, crossed by a pickaxe and a shovel. The design pays tribute to the region's history as a mining center. In 1852, James Cluggage and John R. Poole found gold at a claim they called "Rich Gulch" setting off a gold rush. Jacksonville, the town established at the site, became for a time the largest city north of San Francisco and served as county seat until Medford assumed that role in 1927.
