Along Clarence Esplanade are many memorials in the aftermath of conflict so it is fitting to see this Peace Garden.

The Peace Garden displays the words Peace and Paix (Peace in French) in topiary, lavender hedging. These are located in a gravel area with more lavender plants and doves created from planting.

A stone plaque on the edge of the garden has an inscription which is quoted below.
Text on Monument/Memorial Sign or Plaque:
THIS GARDEN OF PEACE WAS GIVEN TO THE CITY BY THE PEOPLE OF CAEN TO COMMEMORATE THE 800 ANNIVERSARY OF THE CITY'S CHARTER AND IN MEMORY OF THOSE WHO PASSED THIS WAY TO LIBERATE CAEN AND OCCUPIED EUROPE FIFTY YEARS AGO 5 JUNE 1994. GARDEN OF CAEN THIS PLAQUE WAS UNVEILED AND THE GARDEN NAMED BY MONSIEUR JEAN-MARIE GIRAULT THE SENATOR MAYOR OF CAEN IN THE PRESENCE OF COUNCILLOR DR.ALAN BURNETT C.B.E. THE LORD MAYOR OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH AND COUNCILLOR PHYLLIS RAPSON CHAIR OF CAEN PANEL. 28 JANUARY 1995.
