The memorial is a small, granite block with a series of bronze plaques which read:
'D-Day 40
6th June 1944 - 6th June 1984
This plaque was unveiled by the Right Worshipful The Lord Mayor
of Portsmouth, Councillor John S Marshall C.B.E. on 13th June 1984
on the occasion of the planting of twelve oak trees by the
following countries, cities and organisations to commemorate
the fortieth anniversary of the D-Day Landings in Normandy.
